The backayard as an oasis
- a strong connection between interior and exterior. A composition
of a volume with directed views out to the natural environment offering
privacy while also being in nature. The surrounding site elements
of a wood lined path cut into the existing concrete, a deck and walking
'strips' also cut out of the existing concrete to form planting areas play
a vital role in making this a successful 'four season' space. Low
horizontal planes overhead re-inforce the spatial flow of interior to exterior
and conversely from exterior to interior. The wood structure reveals
itself through the 'skin' of the polycarbonate similar to a jellyfish.
On the west side the polycarbonate 'skin' erodes exposing the repetitive
wood structure that now forms a privacy screen.
